New England Cupboard
In this class, you’ll be making a 1/12th scale painted New England Cupboard.
The original cupboard that inspired this project was made in New England in the early 19th century. It’s a rustic cupboard, but with some lovely detail. A piece like this would have been used in a kitchen, living room or keeping room for both practical storage and display.
In this class you’ll learn:
- Hand-tool safety
- Joinery techniques
- How to use a jeweler’s saw to cut wood
- Sanding and preparing wood for finishing
- How to apply miniature hinges
- Painting techniques
- Aging techniques
This is an online, self-guided class using hand-tools. Instructions will be a combination of written directions, photographs and videos. I will send registered students class materials including wooden components with pre-cut joinery, hinges and some essential tools and supplies. Students will also need to provide some tools on their own. In the class, students will use a jeweler’s saw, files and sandpaper to cut and shape the scroll-cut profile of the cupboard stiles. After preparing the wood, students will assemble the cupboard, paint it and apply some aging techniques.
The cupboard dimensions are about 3″ wide x 6.4″ tall x 1.5″ deep.
Note that shipping and tariffs are not included. I am currently selling this class, and will only ship materials, to students located in the USA, Canada, and Australia. I’m hoping to be able to sell into the UK next month.
